Justyna Kopińska, an investigative journalist for Gazeta Wyborcza and Duży Format, was a winner of The Distinguished Writing Award 2016 of the European Press Prize, also known as the European Pulitzer.

International Women's Media Foundation honoured Mabel Cáceres, founder and editor-in-chief of El Búho, with the Courage in Journalism Award recognizing women journalists who standout for extraordinary bravery.

Gender Responsive Journalism Award (2016)

Media Advocacy Group in collaboration with UN Women awarded Gender Responsive Journalism Award to Himal Khabarpatrika’s journalist Saindra Rai for her reporting promoting gender equality.

PRESSzvanie Awards (2016)

For four years in a row, Liga journalists scooped awards at the prestigious Ukrainian PRESSZVANIE Business Awards, which honour the best business journalists of the country.

Vodacom Journalist of the Year awards (2016)

Mail & Guardian journalists were recognized at the Vodacom Journalist of the Year awards, one of the highest accolades for South African journalists, in multiple categories including print feature, finance and young journalist.

For years in a row, Mail & Guardian journalists were honoured with prizes at the Sikuvile Journalism Awards, South Africa’s leading prize recognizing excellence in journalism. In 2019, Mail & Guardian's health journalism centre, Bhekisisa, won top features prize.

Mia Malan, the Director of M&G Health Journalism Centre won the 2016 CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Award for her coverage of sexual violence. A year before, journalist Sarah Wild won a prize for her science reporting.

RTV21, Kosovo

IMA Awards (2016)

For three years in a row, RTV 21 channel scooped prizes at the IMA Awards, a respected Albanian and Kosovar television awards ceremony whose winners are selected by public vote, in such categories as the best news program or the best presenter.

Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards (2016)

For years in a row, Scroll.in was recognized at Ramnath Goenka awards, a benchmark for excellence in Indian journalism in multiple categories, from on-the-spot reporting to reporting on politics and government. In 2019, Scroll's journalists won Ramnath Goenka award for environment series.

Scroll freelance journalist Malini Subramaniam won the International Press Freedom Award from the Committee to Protect Journalists for her reporting on the plight of the indigenous people of Chhattisgarh.

EU Awards for Investigative Journalism (2016)

Three years in a row, Vijesti’s journalists were recognized with prizes at the EU Awards for Investigative Journalism in Montenegro for their investigative stories related to abuse of power, corruption and organised crime.

Investigative Reporting Initiative in the Americas Prize (2016)
