Amplify Kenya is an innovation and capacity building program for independent media in Kenya. The program assists Kenya-based independent media through capacity building, leadership-focused development and network building within the broader East Africa media landscape.
Key features
Participants benefit from access to a range of capacity-building activities, one-on-one coaching, opportunities to learn from experts, workshops and bespoke training aimed at helping them develop the skills and resources needed to explore innovative revenue models, expand audience engagement and foster long-term sustainability. They also gain access to a collaborative and supportive community of like-minded organizations in the Amplify Kenya program and other MDIF Amplify programs globally.
Key features of the program include:
- Innovation and adaptation: Mentorship and resources to experiment with new technologies, revenue models and audience engagement strategies.
- Enhanced resilience: Access to expertise and support for weathering transitions, financial challenges and fostering long-term sustainability.
- Collaborative learning: A supportive cohort environment promoting peer learning, knowledge sharing and best practice exchange.
- Increased reach and impact: Tools and resources to expand audience reach and deliver higher-quality news and information.
Eligibility criteria
Who do we work with?
Amplify Kenya works with innovative early-stage new actors and digital-first outlets as well as more mature media companies pivoting to a new revenue model or adding a new revenue line. The focus of the program is on media with a product and business mindset and growth potential. Selected media will need to be:
- Looking to seed viable new ventures, expand existing ventures, drive innovative initiatives and promote adaptation and experimentation in content creation, distribution and engagement.
- A registered independent media company (read how we define ‘independent’ here) or a new venture with strong evidence of viability.
- Mission-driven businesses that are passionate about trying new approaches to local news and information.
- Organizations with unique (non-traditional) approaches to information services who are developing unique strategies to reach and serve their needs.
