Media Development Investment Fund’s innovation and capacity building program for independent media in Kenya, Amplify Kenya, has announced its first three participants: Debunk Media, SemaBOX and TechSafari. These three independent media ventures represent a new generation of digital-first platforms committed to delivering timely, credible information to Kenyan audiences.
Debunk Media is a visual journalism outlet known for explainers and commentary that counter misinformation and promote public understanding. SemaBOX is a leading African podcasting studio providing a platform for diverse audio storytelling. TechSafari is a media startup focused on Africa’s tech innovation economy, chronicling the continent’s digital transformation.
Building capacity, testing new ideas
Participation in Amplify Kenya offers each media company a rare opportunity to strengthen its business foundation while developing and testing innovative content and revenue ideas.
Through tailored one-on-one coaching, expert mentorship and peer exchange, the cohort will receive strategic support that addresses the specific challenges of their business models.
They will also access a global network of media innovators, benefit from hands-on capacity building and participate in workshops designed to improve investment readiness and operational resilience.
“It is an honour to welcome Debunk Media, SemaBOX and TechSafari as the inaugural participants of the Amplify Kenya program,” said Sebenzile Nkambule, MDIF’s Regional Director for Africa and the Middle East. “These organizations exemplify the innovation and resilience that define the future of independent media in Kenya. Through Amplify Kenya, MDIF reaffirms its commitment to supporting media that provide credible, quality information in environments where access to free and independent journalism is under pressure. This program strengthens the long-term viability of participating outlets by enhancing their business models, improving investment readiness and promoting editorial independence. It forms part of MDIF’s broader mission to foster robust, sustainable media ecosystems that uphold democratic values and advance media freedom and media sustainability globally.”
