MDIF has invested in Brazilian audio journalism company Rádio Novelo. The investment, made through a convertible loan, will strengthen the company’s position in a rapidly evolving audio market and support its long-term sustainability.
Founded in 2019, Rádio Novelo addresses one of journalism’s pressing challenges: how to effectively engage audiences with content essential to democratic life and social well-being. Over the past six years, the company has built a reputation for its high-end audio storytelling.
Rádio Novelo has produced more than 30 podcasts since its launch, combining original programming with work-for-hire series for other platforms. Two flagship weekly shows anchor its editorial output. “Rádio Novelo Apresenta” releases a new hour-long narrative episode each week, featuring compelling stories across a broad range of topics, while “Fio da Meada” brings interviews that offer insight into Brazil’s social, political and cultural realities.
As Rádio Novelo expands its revenue model in a changing media economy, MDIF’s investment and strategic support will help the company adapt and grow sustainably. “MDIF investment and consultancy support helps Rádio Novelo strengthen its revenue streams at a time when the podcast industry’s funding model in Brazil is undergoing significant structural changes,” said Marcela Casaca, Executive Director of Rádio Novelo.
