Kasama Radio: Expanding reach through digital transformation

For Kasama Radio, growth has meant expanding beyond traditional broadcasting to meet audiences wherever they are.

Founded in 2018, the station has built a strong regional presence, broadcasting across Northern, Muchinga and Luapula provinces, with reach extending into parts of Central and Copperbelt. Today, it serves an audience of more than 1 million listeners, making it a key media voice in Zambia’s northern region.

What sets Kasama Radio apart is its commitment to digital transformation. By launching an online platform alongside its traditional broadcast, the station has made its content accessible not only across Zambia but also to audiences globally. This shift has helped it stay competitive in an increasingly crowded media landscape.

Recognising the intensity of competition, the station has invested in stronger marketing, improved programming and more strategic content production. It has also expanded its presence on social media, building a growing community of followers across Facebook, TikTok and YouTube, with plans to extend further onto additional platforms.

This evolution is reflected in its business model. Kasama Radio works with a wide range of partners, including local businesses, government institutions, NGOs and community organizations. This diversified base supports both its financial sustainability and its role as a platform for community engagement.

The station’s journey highlights a key lesson for local media: that growth is not only about expanding reach, but also about adapting to how audiences consume content. By embracing digital tools while maintaining strong community roots, Kasama Radio is building a more resilient and future-ready media business.
