Syed Karim

Syed Karim, Director of Innovation, leads MDIF’s investment process for Digital News Ventures, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MDIF that provides early stage equity financing for news-related start-ups, with a particular interest in frontier markets. Additionally, Syed advises MDIF’s portfolio companies and clients on matters related to product development, digital operations, and technology strategy.  Prior to joining MDIF, Syed led digital and strategic initiatives at Chicago Public Media and has previous experience at an international design consultancy, working in freelance digital product development, and has spent several years as a self-employed equities trader. He holds a B.A. in Social Entrepreneurship from Lake Forest College and will most likely never complete the two credits necessary to finish his master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is based in Tennessee, USA.
