SDM’s history is inseparably connected to the history of Het Parool, which was founded as a resistance newspaper during the Second World War. The Foundation has encouraged independent quality journalism and media pluralism ever since by investing in various media outlets (“old” and “new”) and safeguarding their editorial independence. In addition, it supports various other initiatives that offer resistance against totalitarian tendencies within politics and society. The SDM’s investment instruments are equity, loans, guarantees, grants and any combination thereof.
