Houston Spencer

Houston Spencer is Director of Engagement at Open Society Foundations, Economic Advancement Program and Soros Economic Development Fund. As a stakeholder engagement strategist with 25 years’ experience spanning five continents, his work in both the private and non-profit sectors has been to engage people, communities and institutions in collective discourse. Most recently, he was Global Practice Leader for brand marketing and employee engagement for an international resources company. Immediately prior to that, he built the communication and social investment team for the largest private-sector investment in Mongolia’s history, working for two years in Ulaanbaatar and the Gobi Desert. For ten years, Houston led communications and marketing teams in the tech industry in China, France and the UK.  He has also served clients internationally with strategy consultants McKinsey & Company, and lectured at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he earned both undergraduate and post-graduate degrees in communications. Beyond business, Houston is passionate about youth leadership.  His seminars and workshops have been attended by over 12,000 youth leaders in more than a dozen countries, and he has served as a board or advisory board member for a number of international youth-focused non-profits.
